Influence of molecular weight on the creep behavior of undiluted polyisobutylenes
1979
The elongational behavior in constant force experiments has been considered for three samples of commercial polyisobutylene. The results compare favorably with the predictions of two existing non-linear theories as long as the samples deform homogeneously. Some qualitative observations have been made with reference to the “failure point”, i.e., the point where a non-homogeneous deformation begins.
GAP solitons in 1D asymmetric physical systems
2008
We present a general approach for studying the nonlinear transmittance and gap solitons characteristics of asymmetric and one dimensional (1 D) systems in the low amplitude or Nonlinear Schrodinger limit. Included in this approach are some novel results on naturally asymmetric systems and systems where the symmetry is broken by an external constant force.
Escape Transition of a Grafted Polymer Chain
2000
The escape transition of a flexible polymer chain of chain length N, end-grafted at a hard wall and compressed by a piston of radius R in good solvent conditions, is studied by Monte Carlo simulation and by phenomenological arguments. In contrast to previous theories which have predicted a jump in the force f at a critical value H t of the height H of the piston above the wall, we find that the transition (which is sharp only for N → ∞) is characterized by a flat region of f in the f — H isotherm, i. e. a jump in the height occurs at the transition from H esc , t to H imptt , with (H imp , t — H esc , t )/H esc , t ≈ 0.26. At the transition the constant force f t is predicted and observed t…
